Our Story
BP Flyfishing (BP is short for Backpacking) is a site dedicated to encouraging people to spend more time outdoors fly fishing and backpacking, and to do it in an adventurous and informed way. I live in Colorado, and have watched our state grow more and more crowded. Most good fly fishing water that is accessible by car is sure to have other anglers present. Weekends will draw crowds. Yet, solitude can still be found for those willing to 4-wheel drive, hike, and even backpack a little. I love being outdoors and high-up in the mountains, and want to share this enthusiasm with others.
The objective of BP Flyfishing is to be a resource for both fly fisherman and backpackers. Articles on fly fishing, backpacking, outdoor apparel, and fly tying will help readers to prepare for their own adventures in the backcountry. However, preparation isn’t the only goal. That sounds a little too…..practical. It’s also to fuel the reader’s joy, enthusiasm, and passion for the outdoors through beautiful photography and through interesting articles. I want to encourage and to bring out in others the same love of the outdoors that I have myself.
One focus of BP Flyfishing is to encourage people who have never backpacked or fly fished before to give it a try. Gear lists for each of those areas were some of the earliest posts so that first-timers can see what equipment they’ll need to jump into each of these sports. It’s important to be prepared…..there it is, the practical side in me coming out again. Still, it’s important that both newcomers, and us old-timers, access the remote backcountry in a way that is both safe and that will make a minimal impact on our environment.
This site will also help you to catch more fish! Though fly fishing for me has never been about fish counts, it sure is nice to make just the right cast, with just the right fly…..to feel the pull of a big cutthroat trout as the line zings out of your reel. All while deep in the backcountry, away from the crowds.
I hope you’ll enjoy the site and will keep coming back to read the new articles that will be coming out regularly. Thank you for visiting BP Flyfishing!
